Nokia 3.1 A

We are all still connected as people by Nokia. This time with Nokia 3.1 A, which is also called Nokia 3.1 C. The two vary in this way, they are both meant for the American market (but GadgetPulse has pulled strings for you as always). 3.1 A (which is black in color) is for One carrier (AT & T) and 3.1 C (white) for another (Cricket). They are but one and the same thing. And for this reason, this review will resemble the one for Nokia 3.1 C which you may find somewhere on this website if you could trouble yourself for a moment.

Below is a descriptive review of Nokia 3.1 A.

Design and build

It is easy to tell Nokia 3.1 A (this one) from 3.1 C- that by color. Nokia 3.1 A is black in color, period. Do not allow any room for confusion. It has this Lumia-like finish for them who are familiar with Lumia phones (their production ceased by the way). Yes, this phone reminds me of Lumia 540 I think with that back panel especially which has a centrally placed primary camera with a flash.

Even Nokia branding on the back just screams Lumia. Notice that speaker grill at the bottom right corner as well. The front however is different. There bezel on the top and chin are of the same size. I see Nokia branding on the top bezel at one corner. I also see the call speaker at the center and a selfie camera with a sensor beside it. That chin has been left untouched.

Display and camera

Display

Nokia 3.1 A’s IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen has support for 16M colors and multi touch feature. Its diagonal dimension is 5.45 inches and it covers a 76.7 cm2 area of a 69.8% screen-to-body ratio. Its 18:9 ratio well is just 18:9 aspect ratio, I am not sure what I should report about that.

Maybe tell you about the 720 x 1440 pixels resolution it boasts and a 295 ppi density. Mostly it is a display that lights up brightly so outdoor visibility check box can be marked. And if good outdoors then it has to be good inside a building- duh.

Camera

Video recording capability is as follows, 720p@30fps and 1080p@30fps for selfie and primary camera respectively. The Primary camera is an 8 MP, f/2.0, AF lens while the selfie shooter an okay 5 MP, f/2.2 camera. I think both do an okay job as. They are not the best cameras in the market yes, but also you wouldn’t mention them when talking about poor camera phones.

Performance

Platform

Nokia 3.1 A is an Android 9.0 (Pie) smartphone. Hope for timely updates with it. It has Qualcomm SDM429 Snapdragon 429 chipset and a Quad-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU. To handle graphics Nokia included an Adreno 504 GPU with Nokia 3.1 A.

Storage

With a 32 GB internal storage, Nokia 3.1 A runs on 2 GB of RAM. This storage capacity is not limited in that using a microSD you can still get up to 128 GB additional storage space.

Battery

On paper the battery capacity of Nokia 3.1 A seems dull. A non-removable Li-Ion 2990 mAh battery. This is true though, but not real time, we would have love to a larger capacity though even though the one on board still lasts a whole day of usage. Fast battery charging 10W is the mode of juicing your phone when you are low on power.

Verdict

Nokia 3.1 A surely is a great budget option. Consider it if you are tight on cash yet still need a proper smartphone.
